The museum was established according to the Order of the Department of Culture of the Executive Committee of the Regional Council of People's Deputies dated June 26, 1989. In 1992, the museum was transferred to the Kovel City Department of Culture. Today, the "Kovel Historical Museum" is part of the Executive Committee of the Kovel City Council. The museum is the main repository of cultural monuments related to the history of Kovel and the Kovel region. The museum's exhibition includes various sections, reflecting the history and culture of the region from ancient times to the present day. The museum plays an important role in the study and promotion of the history and cultural heritage of Kovel.
